On this day, 200 years from now (June 28 2222) Montgomery Scott will be born.

The Linlithgow Museum in Scotland even has a blue plaque to commemorate the event.

D.C. Fontana made the link with Linlithgow in Vulcan's Glory (1988) but James Doohan then agreed with her reference so that makes it accurate.

They've had exhibits about Scotty on and off since 2007

From birdsite, NanoAvionics used an off the shelf GoPro camera to check the integrity of the satellite. 🛰️

So it captured 4K footage of the deployment whilst orbiting over the Great Barrier Reef.

One for DOS fans...

Running DOS on 64-bit Windows and Linux: Just because you can
DOS isn't dead. You can still run it and its apps, even now

From birdsite RT @LemuelLyes

Last month I did the unthinkable and finally threw out that box of unloved cables that I've dragged with me through adulthood.

Today I realised that I needed one of them and have no idea how to find a replacement.

On June 27th 1972, Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney incorporated Atari Inc in Sunnyvale, California. The rest is history.

Happy 50th birthday, Atari!

About time...

Motorists caught driving in cycle lanes on roads managed by Transport for London (TfL) are to be fined from Monday.

New powers have been given to fine drivers who cross the solid white lines which mark cycle tracks.

Existing CCTV cameras will initially be used in "key locations... to deter drivers contravening the road rules".

Only rental e-scooters within the various trial areas and pedal cycles can legally be used in cycle lanes.

It seems that everything works so far.
#C64 #uEliteBoard64 !
Keyboard, cartridge, disk, joysticks. :-) Sound is oddly quiet, but also works nicely.
And the board offers pins to run a shielded luma signal for a slightly clearer picture. Nice touch! :rainbow_heart_eyes:

(The board got a temporary home in my breadbin case until I found something nicer)

A reminder for those of you who happen to be unlucky enough to live in the US right now with #RoeVsWade overturned:

Uninstall any proprietary period tracking apps you might have – they *will* snitch on you.

Use drip instead, its fully open source and doesn't include trackers[1].

I like the Registers sub-headline on this article 😂

AWS sent edgy appliance to the ISS and it worked – just like all the other computers up there

Congrats, AWS, you’ve boldly gone where the Raspberry Pi has already been

From birdsite RT @Raspberry_Pi

This cutie is Boost-Box 0.1.

It’s a repurposed analogue Hanimex Super 8 film viewer from the 1970s. A Raspberry Pi 4 is now running the show.

It's finally working! Procedural terrain generation in 6502 asm on the Acorn Electron. As expected, it's pretty slow. I am now trying to speed it up a little. Already using table based multiplication though

Interesting read about the original OS for the Acorn Archimedes, which was not called Arthur

Originally it was going to be called ARX but when it's development was running late they came up with Arthur which was a demo & they ended up using that instead 🤦

Arthur actually meant A Risc by THURsday.

Also interesting fact about the dock - Apple acquired the Dock from Steve Jobs' NeXTstep OS which stole it from Acorn's Arthur Operating System of 1987.

In an odd way this is actually true... except for the Dallas reference (yet)

Ok, now drooling as Blackmagic have released both a new version of the BMPCC6K and updates for the existing 6K & 6K Pro models.

The firmware update looks good, enables built in gyro so can do stabilization in post.

The new G2 does look good as well.

So now I've got to download the update later

Playing with the Z80-MBC2 is a fun retrocomputing project. So here are the obligatory vintage cool-retro-term screenshots of this Z80 homebrew computer running CP/M 3.0 and a couple of games.
